Marvel Studios has revealed the cast for the next Avengers film, Avengers: Doomsday, which is currently scheduled to release on May 1, 2026. The group includes fan-favorite characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), as well as classic characters from the original X-Men franchise, making for the potential for an epic crossover event.
Returning MCU Heroes
And fans can expect the return of some familiar faces:
Chris Hemsworth as Thor, God of Thunder.
Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Captain America.
Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man.
Tom Hiddleston returning as Loki.
Simu Liu reprising his role as Shang-Chi.
Letitia Wright as Shuri.
Florence Pugh in Yelena Belova.
Having played such pivotal roles in the MCU’s narrative is why these characters are eagerly awaited to return.
X-Men Join the Fray
In a shocking twist, Avengers: Doomsday will have several original X-Men characters from the early 2000s movies:
Patrick Stewart as Professor Charles Xavier.
Ian McKellen as Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto.
JAMES MARSDEN as Scott Summers/Cyclops.
Kelsey Grammer as Hank McCoy / Beast
Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler.
Rebecca Romijn as Raven Darkhölme/Mystique.
These characters signal a major multiverse plot, bringing the X-Men universe into the MCU.
New Additions and the Fantastic Four
The film will also introduce some members of the Fantastic Four:
Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic
Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm/Invisible Woman
This also means the Fantastic Four have officially made their way into the MCU, adding to the expansive universe.
Villainous Turn
This will also be the first time Robert Downey Jr. will be featured in the MCU since the events of Avengers: Endgame, where his character Tony Stark sacrificed himself to save the universe, will play the role of the supervillain Doctor Victor Von Doom. This twist takes advantage of the multiverse idea and offers Downey the chance to play an alternate version of a character, widens the depth of the narrative.
Notable Absences
Several prominent characters have been noticeably left off the announced cast:
Doctor Strange, Hulk and Spider-Man are absent, supposedly due to scheduling conflicts.
Missing are some high-profile names, such as Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, though more announcements could be on the way.
