You Season 5

Fans have been waiting for You Season 5 on Netflix for a long time.

And now, more than two years after You Season 4 dropped on Netflix in early 2023, Season 5 remains without an official release date.

Joe Goldberg, portrayed by Penn Badgley, is back on Netflix for one last mystery — and judging by set photos, the worst may be coming for the serial killer.

Why It Took So Long To Get You Season 5 From Netflix

Netflix announced You had been renewed for a fifth and final season on March 24, 2023 – just a little over one month before the start of the Writer’s Guild of America (WGA) strike on May 2, 2023.

You and plenty of other Hollywood productions felt the effects, as scripted production was shut down entirely with the start of 2023 writers and actors’ — see the fallout from those strikes here.

If this strike was settled, it would not be until September 24, 2023, that the authors could go back to work on You’s concluding season.

Around this time, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) went on its strike, which lasted from July 14 to November 9, 2023.

None of the cast would have been able to begin production during the SAG-AFTRA wouldn’t have even if those scripts had been completed.

Production wouldn’t begin until March 25, 2024 (via Netflix), nearly a year following the renewal of the streaming sensation for Season 5.

This surpasses the 10-month record set by Season 3 and represents You’s longest-ever wait between renewal and the start of production. In contrast, there were only five months between the October 2021 renewal of Season 4 and the March 2022 start of production.

The longest wait for new You episodes occurred between Seasons 2 and 3, released between December 2019 and October 2021, a total of 659 days apart.

A significant amount will break the record for the longest wait for a new You season on December 27, 2024, when Season 5 premieres.

Similar to Season 3’s several delays brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, the fifth season has experienced similar difficulties as a result of the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, potentially delaying its launch by at least six months.

When Will Season 5 of You Be Available?
You Filming for Season 5 began in March 2024 in New York City and was completed in August (via Netflix). In contrast, the first episodes of Season 4 debuted in February 2023 after filming concluded in August 2022.

Fans might witness Joe Goldberg’s last chapter debut in early 2025, perhaps in February again, if Netflix were to follow the same trend for Season 5.

The last season of You, like many other popular Netflix shows including Cobra Kai, Stranger Things, and Bridgerton, was published in two installments around a month apart.

You Season 5 may once again be divided into two five-episode installments because, according to WGA, it will contain ten episodes, much like Season 4.

In 2025, You Season 5 will be available on Netflix.
