Marvel Studios has officially introduced The Fantastic Four: First Steps with an exciting first-look trailer. This highly anticipated film marks the entry of Marvel’s First Family into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) with a fresh, retro-futuristic take set in the 1960s.

The trailer gives fans a thrilling introduction to the Fantastic Four, featuring Reed Richards (Mister Fantastic), Sue Storm (Invisible Woman), Johnny Storm (Human Torch), and Ben Grimm (The Thing). These iconic roles are played by Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, respectively. Unlike previous adaptations, the movie kicks off with the team already possessing their superpowers and established as renowned superheroes within their universe.

First Look at the Fantastic Four and Galactus

The teaser offers a glimpse into the film’s unique 1960s-inspired world, blending vintage aesthetics with futuristic technology. While the plot remains largely under wraps, one of the standout moments in the trailer is the first reveal of the powerful villain Galactus, played by Ralph Ineson. The character’s design stays remarkably true to his comic book origins, adding to fans’ excitement.

Additionally, the trailer showcases the Fantastic Four in their classic blue and white suits, hinting that this could be the most comic-accurate adaptation of the superhero team to date.

New Characters and Mysterious Roles

Another intriguing element in the trailer is the appearance of veteran actor John Malkovich in a yet-to-be-revealed role. Speculation suggests he could be portraying Ivan Kragoff, also known as Red Ghost, a villainous scientist who first appeared in Fantastic Four comics in the 1960s.

Meanwhile, actress Julia Garner has been confirmed to play Shalla-Bal, a version of the Silver Surfer. In a recent interview, she described her experience working on the film as “phenomenal” and expressed gratitude for being part of the Marvel universe. The movie also includes Paul Walter Hauser, Natasha Lyonne, and Sarah Niles in undisclosed roles.

The Story and Setting

While Marvel has not revealed much about the plot, director Matt Shakman previously hinted at the film’s themes, describing it as being inspired by the space race and the adventurous spirit of the 1960s. He emphasized that First Steps is about “exploration,” suggesting that space travel and cosmic discoveries will play a major role in the storyline.

Actor Joseph Quinn, who plays Johnny Storm, has also praised the script, calling it “brilliant” and “compelling,” raising anticipation for what Marvel has in store for fans.

The MCU’s Final Film of 2025

Scheduled for release on July 25, 2025, The Fantastic Four: First Steps will be the third and final MCU movie of the year. It follows Thunderbolts and Captain America: Brave New World, both of which focus on more grounded stories. In contrast, First Steps will expand the cosmic side of the MCU, with speculation that it could introduce major elements for the next Avengers saga.

There are also rumors that Robert Downey Jr. could make a surprise appearance as Doctor Doom in this film, setting up his role in future MCU projects, including Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

What’s Next for Marvel’s First Family?

Following The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Pascal, Kirby, Quinn, and Moss-Bachrach are expected to return as Marvel’s First Family in Avengers: Doomsday, which is set to begin filming in March 2025. Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film will be written by Stephen McFeely, the same team behind Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.

With its mix of nostalgia, exploration, and superhero action, The Fantastic Four: First Steps promises to be one of the most exciting MCU films in recent years.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps hits theaters on July 25, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
