best animated DC films

Best animated DC films: These DC animated films & TV episodes, which range from Batman the Long Halloween to Justice League Crisis of Two Earths, are among the least well-known.

The multiple film production phases and countless TV programs that have been added to the MCU franchise have garnered a ton of attention. The MCU has so much substance that it has been broken up into phases. That is great and all, but what about DC? In the last 10 years, a lot of DC’s content has been eclipsed by Marvel. However, it appears that DC’s on-screen entertainment may soon surpass Marvel’s with the recent release of the excellent movie The Batman and the beginnings of James Gunn’s DCU in motion.

The huge amount of animated content that is released is one facet of DC entertainment that is frequently disregarded. Fans of DC have been gifted with fantastic tales thanks to series like Harley Quinn and movies like The Suicide Squad (not to be confused with Suicide Squad). Nevertheless, given the publicity it receives and the competition from Marvel, much of the material has been obscured and forgotten. These are the ten underappreciated animated DC films and television programs.

Batman Unlimited

Batman Unlimited is more lighthearted than anything else. This animated TV series, which was based on the line of action figures, did it in a very original way in order to promote the sales of those action figures. Batman Unlimited had very little publicity and gave very little in the way of character development, but it did have some intriguing adventures for viewers to enjoy.

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker

Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker revives the fan-favorite villain as Batman fights the supposedly resuscitated Joker who has returned to wreak havoc upon Gotham. Part of the original animated Batman animated features, Return of the Joker, is much more about Joker’s sadistic villainy than his earlier compatriots and, as such, has more horror elements. Mark Hamill voices the Joker in Return of the Joker, which has a 100-percent Rotten Tomatoes rating and anyone who loves Batman can’t miss it.

Justice League Vs The Fatal Five

Justice League vs. The Fatal FiveThe first movie in this list to offer a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score, The Fatal Five deserves way more recognition than it’s gotten. Through a battle with the Fatal Five and a desperate bid to save the Emerald Empress, the Justice League embarks on a quest to locate the Green Lantern they seek, save Metropolis from destruction, and ultimately redeem their lost comrades. People in the comments said it was nice that the movie used the tried-and-true Justice League film template, also displaying the teamwork and strengths of all Justice League members.

Vixen

Based on the DC Comics character Vixen, Vixen tells the story of Mari McCabe, an orphan who discovers purpose in life thanks to her inherited Tantu Totem, which endows her with all of the animal species’ prodigious skills. In the Arrowverse, Mari meets characters like Green Arrow and The Flash who teach her how to use her powers and thwart the dangers that are all around her. Within the DC universe, Vixen is not a very well-known character, but this animated series gives her a chance to shine.

Batman & Mr. Freeze: Subzero

One of the most underappreciated Batman villains is Mr. Freeze, who merits higher regard for his ingenuity and his sympathetic plight. Batman must save Barbara Gordon because SubZero is pursuing Mr. Freeze, who has kidnapped her in an effort to use her blood to resurrect his wife. Mr. Freeze’s foolish determination to save the love of his life at whatever cost is thoroughly explored by SubZero, demonstrating to us that not all villains are content to watch the world burn.

The Superhero Legion

Legion of Superheroes focuses on a teenage Superboy, the DC superhero, as he’s inducted into the 31st-century era and meets the futuristic Legion of Superheroes. Legion of Superheroes offers viewers an entirely different set of characters to cheer for as it includes a large number of lesser-known DC characters including Phantom Girl and Brainiac 5. The series had two seasons and rather than leaving the series incomplete, its makers gave the audience some long-awaited closure.

Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths

The Justice League battles its evil counterparts on a parallel planet in the story told in Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths. This is made even more unusual because the Justice League collaborates with a good Lex Luthor to help them beat their evil counterparts. One of the greatest Justice League films to ever be released is Crisis on Two Earths. Although its canon status caused some fans to have second thoughts, the movie has come into its own, showcasing the best of the Justice League.

The Zeta Project

The Zeta Project, which was released in 2001, is one of DC’s hidden gems. Things change in the plot, which centers on Zeta, a humanoid robot designed to carry out covert killings when Zeta learns that one of his intended victims is innocent. He experiences an existential crisis and loses the will to kill. Zeta is being sought after by the NSA while he searches for a purpose outside of his programming. Despite the fact that The Zeta Project only lasted two seasons, it is an extremely original contribution to DC’s on-screen filmography and is well worth watching.

Batman: The Long Halloween

Batman: The Long Halloween, which was released in 2021, was regrettably eclipsed by The Batman. That said, it doesn’t lessen how remarkable the movie is. The two-part narrative The Long Halloween follows Batman as he investigates the identity of the Holiday killer while navigating Gotham under the brutal authority of the Falcone family. Instead of emphasizing his gadgets and fighting prowess, Bruce Wayne’s more curious side is revealed in The Long Halloween.

Freedom Fighters: The Ray

Reporter Raymond Terrill gains abilities after being struck by a transgenic light bomb. Ray then joins the Freedom Fighters and learns that he is now a superhero. Freedom Fighters: The Ray was significantly eclipsed by popular television shows centered on the Justice League. The Justice League cannot, however, present the entire picture of DC superheroes that this little 12-episode series can.
