Apple TV+ has officially announced the renewal of its popular psychological thriller series Severance for Season 3. After the huge success of Season 2, fans were eagerly waiting for the confirmation — and now it’s finally here.
Season 2 ended with a gripping 76-minute finale that had fans talking for days. The show’s unique story, which focuses on a workplace where employees undergo a procedure to separate their work and personal memories, has become a massive hit. In fact, it’s now the most-watched show on Apple TV+, even beating the super popular Ted Lasso.
What Makes Severance So Popular?
Severance is not your typical office drama. It dives into the strange world of Lumon Industries, where people undergo a medical process called “severance” that completely splits their work-life memories from their personal lives. So, when they’re at work, they have no idea who they are outside, and vice versa.
This unusual concept, along with a strong cast led by Adam Scott and sharp storytelling, has won the hearts of viewers and critics alike. The show has already won an Emmy and a Peabody Award and continues to receive praise for its creativity and depth.
What the Creators and Cast Have Said
Ben Stiller, the executive producer and director of the show, shared a light-hearted message during the Season 3 announcement. He joked about having no memory of making Season 3 — a fun reference to the show’s main plot. He also mentioned that working on Severance has been one of the most exciting creative projects in his career.
Adam Scott, who plays the lead character Mark, said he’s thrilled to return. He added a playful note, asking fans not to tell his “innie” — his work version — about what’s coming next.
Dan Erickson, the show’s creator, also shared his excitement. He said making more Severance with such a talented team is more exciting than “all the world’s finger traps combined” — again referring to a fun moment from the show.
Apple TV+ Is All In
Apple TV+ is clearly betting big on Severance. Matt Cherniss, the head of programming, said that what the team has created is nothing short of magical. He confirmed that Apple is proud to be the platform for such a unique and powerful series.
When Will Season 3 Be Released?
Right now, there’s no exact release date for Season 3. But don’t worry — it won’t take as long as the gap between Season 1 and Season 2. That delay was mainly due to the 2023 writers’ and actors’ strikes, which disrupted productions across Hollywood.
Ben Stiller has already said that they’re planning a much faster timeline this time. In fact, the writers’ room for Season 3 has been active since late 2024, which means work is already in progress.
If all goes well, filming might start by the end of 2025. Season 2 took 186 days to film and needed a lot of post-production work. So, if things stay on track and there are no big delays, we could see Season 3 by early 2027 — or maybe even sooner if Apple pushes for a quicker release.
Where Can You Watch It?
Both Season 1 and Season 2 of Severance are now available to stream on Apple TV+. So, if you haven’t watched it yet, now is the perfect time to catch up.
