Scream 7 first set photo

Scream 7 has received a significant production upgrade following a troublesome pre-production phase. The first set photo for the sequel has been made public, and filming has officially begun.

Director Kevin Williamson announced that he had just finished his first day of filming Scream 7 on Instagram with a picture from the set. After experiencing what he calls one of the best days of his life, Williamson, who authored the original Scream movie, which was directed by Wes Craven, praised the actors and crew. Additionally, he honored Craven, noting that Williamson was thinking about the late horror icon all day long and that he was present in spirit.

“I’m not allowed to post about Scream and I hope [Spyglass Media] and [Paramount-Pictures] will forget about me but when you have one of the best days of your life it’s really hard to keep it to yourself,” Williamson said in the article. “Working with such a skilled and fantastic cast and crew made for an incredible day. They gave it their all and supported me the entire time. I’m incredibly appreciative of this chance and Wes Craven, who never left my thoughts. He has had an incalculable impact on my life and work. What a day! I am eagerly anticipating tomorrow.

Naturally, not much can be seen in the set photo because, on the first day of filming, Williamson doesn’t appear to want to share any significant details about Scream 7. However, the image does provide the first glimpse of Scream 7’s official logo. A red “7” has been positioned at the side, bearing the well-known Scream movie emblem. For impact, some splattered blood has also been added.

Before reaching this stage, Scream 7’s production had a few issues behind the scenes. Christopher Landon was originally slated to helm the follow-up, which would have continued to center on the new gang from Scream (2022) and Scream VI (2023). However, Melissa Barrera was controversially removed from her part as Sam Carpenter before production because of remarks she made on social media regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict. Shortly after, it was disclosed that Jenna Ortega had also left the sequel, allegedly because of scheduling difficulties with Wednesday Season 2. That’s when Landon also pulled out of the project.

For Scream 7, Neve Campbell is once again in the lead.

Following these failures, Williamson took over as director and got Scream 7 back on track. Despite having written the first and third films in the series, this is Williamson’s first time directing. Neve Campbell’s return as Sidney Prescott was also revealed; following her brief appearance in 2022’s Scream and her total absence in Scream VI, she will again play a major role. Mason Gooding and Courteney Cox will also return, and Anna Camp, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, and Sam Rechner will join the group.

On February 27, 2026, Scream 7 will be released in theaters.
