With Pokémon Day 2025 on the way, The Pokémon Company treated us to a special animated short, “Dragonite and the Postman.” A title you may be unfamiliar with is this heartwarming tale realized by CoMix Wave Films, the acclaimed production studio responsible for works such as “Your Name” and “Weathering With You.”

Including the New Adventure in the Pokémon World.

“Dragonite and the Postman” introduces a girl named Hana, who hails from the Paldea region and wants to be a world-class postwoman. As to why she explains that her inspiration would be a hardworking Dragonite she loved when she was little. One day, Hana gets a letter with no return address. Determined to deliver it to its intended recipient, she sets upon an adventure with her partner Pokémon, Fuecoco. It traces them to Rio, the boy who penned the letter for his father’s birthday. But they find out that his dad’s birthday is today, which means they have to be quick.

This talented group of creators have come together

This short film is directed by Taku Kimura, who also worked on “Star Wars: Visions.” The screenplay was written by Kentaro Nana, while Asuka Dokai handled the character designs. The chief animation director is Maho Aoki, while Tasuku Watanabe serves as – the art director. The narrative together with its music, composed by Evan Call, are beautifully crafted. Yorushika’s suis sing paper airplane, the theme song that accompanies the story.

From the animation to the design, it’s captures the Pokémon world in an exciting and stunning way. The short presents a wholesome narrative of the bond between humans and Pokémon in various environments, from bustling urban areas to beautiful natural landscapes.
