Slasher horror-comedy Hell of a Summer directed by Billy Bryk and Finn Wolfhard is out in theaters this week. This film, about a group of camp counselors trying to survive the rampage of a masked killer, is the directorial debut for Bryk and Wolfhard.
Known for his appearances in Stranger Things, It and Ghostbusters: Afterlife, Wolfhard weaves his eerily enchanting magic into this horror-comedy thank-you very much.
The film stars an ensemble cast, including Wolfhard as Chris and Bryk as Bobby. They are joined by Fred Hechinger (Gladiator II), Abby Quinn (Knock at the Cabin), Pardis Saremi (Death and Other Details) and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Warfare). Hell of a Summer premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2023, receiving a mixed reception — reviewed as campy fun but with a predictable premise. Regardless, the film is still poised to make an impact with its theatrical run and subsequent streaming release.

When Is Hell of a Summer Streaming?
After its theatrical run, Hell of a Summer will stream exclusively on Hulu — as part of Neon’s deal with the platform. Should the film be a box office hit, it will presumably land on Hulu sometime soon after, possibly August or September 2025. But if it struggles to find an audience in theaters, an earlier digital release could happen.
Digital Release & VOD Availability
For anyone who would prefer to watch from the comfort of their own home, Hell of a Summer might be made available on digital services as early as late April 2025. Due to its niche appeal and cult potential, it could be a fast track to VOD services — including Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV and Google Play.
But with its mixed reviews from the Toronto International Film Festival, Hell of a Summer could come out as a sleeper hit in the genre of horror-comedy. However you choose to experience it, in theaters or once it gets to streaming, you’re sure to have a good time in this blood-soaked slasher with a wicked sense of dark humor.
