Introduction
The use of abrupt and unexpected plot twists by filmmakers to shock audiences and defy preconceptions has a long and uneven history. Some genres and movies have done a particularly good job of leveraging this theme. It does not, however, always operate. While the plot technique has been employed in a variety of music, it is most commonly associated with thriller and nightmare movies. Both weakening and enhancing the events of the movie are possibilities for the twisted finale. Such a twist should be intended to shock viewers or improve the film when viewed again. Fans should have a compelling motive to read the book and examine the twist. However, far too many movies have unintentionally destroyed the tale they had developed by turns that weaken the remainder of the picture.
Scooby-Doo: Return to Zombie (2019)
When it was announced that Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island would be the series’ come back to one of the local gang’s most unforgettable adventures, fans of the cartoon were thrilled. Although this sequel gets off to a good start, it subsequently deliberately destroys the first story.
Great storytelling and the usage of genuine monsters are hallmarks of the Scooby-Doo “Mook flicks,” and Zombie Island is no different. Because those realistic monsters aren’t present, Return to Zombie Island upsets fans. Even the beloved original is undermined by its twist.
Triangle
A wonderful idea is introduced in the horror movie Triangle. It takes place on a ship that is floating in the mysterious Bermuda Triangle. The strange ghost ship is discovered when a group of friends set off in their boat. They soon discover that a murderer in a mask is following them.
The film is an excellent slasher for the majority of its duration. It likewise uses a ship’s enclosed and remote surroundings. However, it becomes clear in the climactic scene that the film’s central character is the murderer. The time loop that allows for this is then explored in depth. The rest of the movie is a hazy haze of dubious period logic.
Shang-Chi (2021)
In Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, the Mandarin, Xu Wenwu, makes an impact as a gang member. He gives the movie’s themes of overcoming familial trauma and coming to terms with one’s heritage a lot of weight. He combines genuine motivation and a strong skill set, and Tony Leung Chiu-Wai gives a brilliant portrayal.
Wenwu is not, however, the movie’s final bad guy. The major plot device is that Wenwu was being controlled by the Dweller in Shadow the entire time. The popularity of Shang-Chi is due to its sensitively written topics and excellent action sequences. Both are undercut by The Inhabitant in Darkness. It has little connection to the ideas of the movie, and the final battles with it are generic and heavily Graphics.
The unforgivable
For most of its playing duration, The Unforgivable poses difficult questions. The main character is a woman who, in an armed standoff, appears to have killed a policeman. Her release from prison is the subject of the movie. Major plot points include her attempts to reenter society and reconnect with her sister in especially.
The obstacles of being a horrible criminal trying to live her life are not avoided by The Unconscionable. The viewer is left in a challenging moral stance where they must support her and strongly dislike what she did. The woman’s sister, however, is the real killer, which is the novel’s major twist. This undermines the movie’s central idea and strips it of its nuanced complexity and nuance.
Reeker
The independent horror film for several reasons, Reeker stands out in the independent horror industry. It follows a bunch of college kids as they stop in a motel in the middle of nowhere. They are subsequently stalked and killed one by one by a figure that resembled the grim reaper.
Reeker sets a foreboding tone and a potent threat. Reeker appears to have all the makings of a good horror film. After the film, it is demonstrated that every personality had been involved in a vehicular accident. Events in the movie take place in the grey area between death and life. This quickly deprives every action in the movie of any significance.
Now you see me
Four magicians are the subject of the heist thriller Now You See Me. The Four Horsemen surprise authorities by pulling off a series of heists while posing as entertainers. Dylan Rhodes, an FBI agent, is the show’s main antagonist and receives a significant amount of attention. Hunting the Four Horsemen occupies Rhodes’ time.
A heist movie with a sharp edge, Now You See Me is pretty standard. But it tries to throw a surprise at the conclusion. The Four Horsemen’s leader, Dylan Rhodes, is made known. They claim he has been assisting them all along from the opposite side. It appears to be a twist for the sake of a twist, and the background of the movie doesn’t justify it.
Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985)
An enjoyable and very typical Jason film is set up on Friday the thirteenth Part V: A Fresh Start. It follows Tommy Jarvis as he again fights a murderer donning a ski mask. A young man is killed inexplicably to start it all off. Both viewers and characters are given cause to think Jason is returned.
The killer was Roy, the young man’s father, as revealed in the conclusion. After his son is murdered, he decides to act like Jason and turns into a killer. Horror franchises usually have at least one film with the same plot twist. The replacement adversary is never as popular as the first. Each time, they cause the movie to suffer.
The sense of an ending
Unbreakable’s covert sequel, Split, is made clear by its devastating conclusion. For the numerous Unstoppable and David Stone fans, it holds great promise. According to Glass, the series’s finale will be a grand one.
Glass, however, takes a detour. Being centered on a group that murders superheroes, its plot is peculiar. All three of its heroes are killed off in the film’s twist conclusion, which ups the ante. Fans particularly detest watching David Dunn perish in a small puddle. It detracts from the movie and makes it into a letdown of a series finale.
Fight club
Among the most well-known films from the 1990s is Fight Club. A film that still stands out right now thanks to its production, style, and complexity. But its major plot twist is even more divisive. The nameless narrator of the movie discovers that Tyler Durden is the same guy in the final sequence.
A hero and villain who are the same person might work in some movies. The disclosure is put into question by far too many sequences in Fight Club. If Tyler Durden is the narrator’s other identity, there are a few passages that just don’t make sense. It prevents the audience from understanding the movie. Instead, they ponder the pointless twist for a long time.
My name is bruce
My Name Is Bruce, an underappreciated film starring Bruce Campbell, does a good job of mocking the actor and his following. As a fictionalized version of himself, Campbell plays the lead. The king of B-movies is abducted by the citizens of a tiny village when they seek a hero to save them from a demon.
The film made extensive fun of the image of Campbell created by his followers and his roles. Though its outcome indicates that the events are a movie within a movie, within seconds, the movie underlines its amusing self-awareness. For very little payoff, it becomes too meta.
