Plankton

The world of SpongeBob SquarePants lives on and this time, it’s focusing on one of its most notorious villains. On March 7, 2025, Netflix will present Plankton: The Movie, bringing an epic new adventure of Plankton, who may be small in stature but has big dreams.

For years, Plankton has conspired, plotted, and planned to get the secret formula for the Krabby Patty — and has failed every time. But this movie takes the story somewhere totally different. Plankton’s computer wife, Karen, has had enough of his incompetence and belittling. Dismayed by his incompetence, she resolves to kill him and take over the world herself. Now that Karen is on the loose, Plankton knows that he has lost the most important thing to him. This thrusts an unthinkable task upon him — join forces with SpongeBob and his pals to get her back.

The film will be directed by Dave Needham, whose past credits include The Loud House Movie, and will be executive produced by longtime SpongeBob SquarePants creative team members Marc Ceccarelli and Vincent Waller. The voice cast includes Mr. Lawrence, who has voiced Plankton for years, and Jill Talley as Karen, along with returning “SpongeBob” stars Tom Kenny (SpongeBob), Bill Fagerbakke (Patrick), Carolyn Lawrence (Sandy), Clancy Brown (Mr. Krabs) and Rodger Bumpass (Squidward).

To amp up this excitement even more, Plankton: The Movie will include original songs from Bret McKenzie, Linda Perry, Mark Mothersbaugh and Bob Mothersbaugh, with the music for the film created by Mahuia Bridgman-Cooper.

This release comes after Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, which was released to Netflix in 2024. As SpongeBob’s 25th anniversary party rolls on, the franchise shows no signs of slowing down. Expect additional spin-offs and films to follow, including The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie: Search for SquarePants, which is set for a theatrical release December 19, 2025.

With a hilarious premise, all-star cast and fresh new music, Plankton: The Movie is going to tear up the SpongeBob universe. Is this finally Planktons moment, or is Karen the true mastermind behind it all? Fans will see when the film is available on Netflix this March!
