May 16, 2025 — “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” a psychological thriller The film, directed by Trey Edward Shults, stars Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye in his first leading film role, along with Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.
The story centers on a musician, played by Tesfaye, who is both insomnia-ridden and beloved, who goes on a psychedelic adventure with a stranger that interrogates the simplicities of the existence he thought he was living.
The movie is a companion piece to The Weeknd’s sixth studio album of the same name, which came out on January 24, 2025. This releases wraps a trilogy that started with “After Hours” in 2020 and was followed by “Dawn FM” in 2022. And the notable collaborators on the album include the likes of Lana Del Rey, Justice, Giorgio Moroder, Future, Florence and the Machine, and Travis Scott.
Jenna Ortega, fresh off her success with a certain horror genre’s odyssey of a teenage girl, appears as Anima, a figure who shares a disturbing bond with Tesfaye’s canonically self-destructive figure — the two spiral into a slew of psychological turns. Ortega has praised Tesfaye’s leadership and decency on set, noting a sense of camaraderie while on production.
Released so far is a taste of the movie, though that one goes into more towards its more haunting visuals with a dark and moody atmosphere backed by a gripping score from Daniel Lopatin along with The Weeknd. It hints at deeper topics like mental health and personal vulnerability; it looks like a rich cinematic chapter.
The main cast is joined by TikTok star Charli D’Amelio and singer Gabby Barrett who also make appearances in the film.
The film “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” in theaters nationwide on May 16, 2025. This movie should deliver a mix of psychological and musical heat that is memorable in The Weeknd’s professional saga.
