“Dexter: Original Sin,” the hit prequel series, has officially been renewed for season 2. The move follows the series ranked as Showtime’s most-streamed original in a decade, with the finale drawing 2.68 million global viewers overall — a 30% bump over the premiere. ​

And Sarah Michelle Gellar, who played Tanya Martin — Miami Metro’s CSI chief and Dexter’s superior — is already confirmed to return for Season 2. Though Gellar was credited as a guest star during that first season, her character struck a chord with audiences. She posted the renewal information on Instagram, suggesting that she would be a part of the new season. ​

The show’s showrunner, Clyde Phillips, will remain in charge as the series (finally) makes it into its second season. Although specific plot details are being kept under wraps, Phillips has teased that you could see new aspects of Dexter’s backstory, and perhaps learn more about who Dexter came from. ​
