Blue Beetle

Xolo Maridueña, who plays Jaime Reyes in Blue Beetle, has confirmed some amazing news regarding the character’s future.

An animated series that picks up Jaime’s story is on the way, he said, also targeting a release in 2026. This series will fall under the umbrella of James Gunn’s new DC Universe. “I’m ready to come back,” Maridueña said of his excitement. We’re hitting hard on this animated project and would like to see this wrapped up this year, so we can show everybody next year.” Though plot details remain under wraps, the next chapter will likely see more of the young superhero’s adventures.

Besides the animated series, Maridueña also comment on the likelihood of him coming back as Blue Beetle in a future live-action movie. He added that he hasn’t had any detailed conversations with DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn yet but he’s hopeful. Maridueña said, “Look, he’s [Gunn] in his kitchen. I don’t want to stroll in while the chef is doing his thing. But all I can say is after they are done with this three-course meal, I am primed.” This implies that, while nothing is set in stone, there is still a possibility Jaime Reyes will make future appearances in any live-action iterations of the DCU.

Xolo Maridueña will reprise his role as Blue Beetle in the DCU, James Gunn has already confirmed. “Xolo Maridueña will remain Blue Beetle in the DCU, just as Viola Davis will continue as Amanda Waller, and John Cena will continue as Peacemaker,” he said. That gives some assurance that the character has a place in the evolving DC Universe.

In the 2023 film “Blue Beetle,” audiences met Jaime Reyes, a teenager who finds an alien scarab that gives him the powers of the super hero Blue Beetle. The film was praised for its representation and Maridueña’s performance. However, the new animated series seems to explore more of Jaime’s adventures and his path towards becoming the hero that fans love.

Fans of Maridueña’s work can also look forward to the final episodes of “Cobra Kai,” where he portrays Miguel Diaz. The series promises closure and intense fight scenes as it concludes its run. Maridueña reflected on the experience, comparing it to graduating and expressing gratitude for the friendships formed during the show’s production.

In summary, the future looks bright for Xolo Maridueña’s portrayal of Blue Beetle. With an animated series on the horizon and potential live-action appearances, fans have much to anticipate in the coming years.
