The world of Avatar is expanding again, with Avatar : Fire and Ash, set to come out Dec. 19, 2025.
This chapter also brings an all-new Na’vi reclan, the Wind Traders (Tlalim Clan), who fly through Pandora’s clouds on massive jellyfish-like fauna. The biggest surprise? Harry Potter star David Thewlis joins the franchise as Peylak, the handsome leader of this sky crew.
Introducing the Wind Traders: Pandora’s New Aerial Clan
Avatar has already revealed some stunning biomes — from verdant forests to bioluminescent oceans. Now Fire and Ash launches a new level of flight with the Wind Traders, a vibrant and free-spirited clan that injects a new flair into Pandora’s ecosystem.
Their look went through several iterations, according to the costume designer Deborah L. Scott. It had been designed for a more utilitarian look, but director James Cameron pushed for a more grandiose, eye-popping aesthetic. The result? An entrancing clan with colorful getups, from Peylak’s floor-length sunset-hued cape.
“They’re upbeat, happy, colorful,” says Scott. “When they show up in the movie, it feels like the circus has arrived.”
David Thewlis Becomes Part of Avatar Universe
Most widely recognized as Professor Remus Lupin from the Harry Potter movies, David Thewlis is also cast as Peylak, and he approaches the new character with vigorous energy.
Scott lavished praise on Thewlis’s unusual posture and stature, saying he was “absolutely stunning in the movie.”
More New Faces & Returning Cast
The sequel to Avatar is loaded with star power. Thewlis is also joined by Michelle Yeoh and Oona Chaplin, the former of whom plays a human scientist named Dr. Karina Mogue. Familiar faces will also appear, including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña and Sigourney Weaver, as they continue their journey in the ever-expanding world of Pandora.
What Is The Cinematic Vision For Avatar 3 And Future Sequels
The Wind Traders are yet another addition to the world of Avatar, following the oceanic Metkayina clan in The Way of Water.
With 95% of filming already complete, Cameron’s strategy of shooting multiple sequels simultaneously ensures a smooth transition between films. This efficient production method, combined with the franchise’s history of pushing technological boundaries, hints at an exciting visual spectacle ahead.
Given that The Way of Water grossed over $2.3 billion, expectations for Fire and Ash are sky-high. The film is also setting the stage for Avatar 4 (2026) and Avatar 5 (2028), making it clear that Pandora’s story is far from over.
