March is a good month for nostalgia, because Peacock is dipping its hand back in the well and bringing back yet another popular NBC show of yesteryear, this time, the comedy that took televised marriage to its weird extremes.
Next up for the streaming service is a new film that revisits the 14-year-old television series Grimm. Now a remake film of Grimm is in the works, as per Deadline. Josh Berman (Drop Dead Diva) is the film’s writer. Details about the film’s plot have not yet been released, and it is not yet clear how the film will connect to the original series. The movie reportedly aims to make some sort of connection to the TV series to satisfy ardent fans, but it is also thought to be written in a way that is understandable to those who haven’t seen the original Grimm. Depending on how well it does, the movie might even start a new franchise.
Alongside original Grimm co-creators Jim Kouf and David Greenwalt, Berman is an executive producer on the project. Other EPs include Universal Television and Hazy Mills Productions, which is owned by Sean Hayes and Todd Milliner. Though it appears likely that Grimm cast members will make appearances, no cast members have been confirmed for the movie as of yet. It remains to be known if they will serve as the lead character or return in supporting roles to assist introduce a new group of primary characters.
NBC aired Grimm for six seasons.
After its premiere in 2011, Grimm continued for six seasons, with more than 120 episodes, until its conclusion in 2017. The show centers on Nicholas Burkhardt (David Giuntoli), a Portland homicide investigator who discovers he is a “Grimm,” a unique guardian entrusted with maintaining harmony between humans and the legendary Wesen. Alongside Russell Hornsby, Silas Weir Mitchell, Sasha Roiz, Reggie Lee, Bree Turner, and Claire Coffee, the show also included Elizabeth Tulloch, star of Superman & Lois.
When the show’s 2017 conclusion aired, Greenwalt told THR, “We purposefully made our ending very fairy tale-esque.” We want to believe that our characters simply continued to exist and never passed away. In addition to going full circle, we also wanted to look ahead. Fans, in my opinion, had a legitimate expectation that we would do that.
There were plans to create a spinoff series at NBC once Grimm’s run ended. According to the description of the new reboot movie, the plan was to present a new Grimm to concentrate on while maintaining the continuity of the previous series. The property has been on hold ever since the network decided not to take up the planned spinoff.
The Grimm movie has not yet been given a release date.
