Amazing Spider-Man New Series

Marvel Announces Amazing Spider-Man New Series.

Joe Kelly was announced as the successor to Zeb Wells’ tenure on Amazing Spider-Man after Wells’ run ended, but at first, it seemed like Kelly was only handling the epic “8 Deaths of Spider-Man” plotline (with help from Justina Ireland, who has kindly filled in for Kelly on a few of the event’s chapters). However, Marvel has since declared that Kelly will officially become Amazing Spider-Man’s next regular writer. In honor of this announcement, the series will relaunch in April.

Longtime Amazing Spider-Man artist John Romita Jr., who served as the book’s primary artist during Wells’ run and a new Spider-Man artist, will join Kelly on the new series! Pepe Larraz will be the other primary Amazing Spider-Man artist. He recently worked on the X-Men, including launching the Krakoan Age of the X-Men with Jonathan Hickman in 2019 in House of X, and he recently finished the popular crossover event Blood Hunt.

What will be the focus of this season of Amazing Spider-Man?

Marvel characterized Kelly’s run in a press statement introducing the new series as “Peter is unemployed and seeking gainful employment, but his job search is interrupted by a rampaging Rhino who is but the tip of a sinister iceberg.” Which prominent villain secretly weaponizes other villains, including one we haven’t seen in more than seven years? What has Norman Osborn, who is no longer a Goblin, been up to lately?

Nick Lowe, editor of Amazing Spider-Man, explained his decision to appoint Kelly as the show’s new regular writer, saying, “I didn’t think we could get Joe for a substantial run of AMAZING SPIDER-MAN.” He generally simply dabbles in comics because he’s constantly so busy with animation, TV, and movies.

We chose him for “The 8 Deaths of Spider-Man” for this reason. I felt like I had won the lotto when he requested that we consider him as the ongoing writer because he was performing so well. We knew we had the makings of an immediate classic when we added Pepe Larraz’s extraordinary and supersonic talent to the mix. After John Romita Jr. consented to continue, pyrotechnics erupted. It would be wise for me to get lottery tickets.

What are the opinions of Pepe Larraz and Joe Kelly on this new series?

“since this is a new #1, I don’t think of it as a relaunch per se,” Kelly stated in a Polygon interview before to the announcement of the new run. I am writing the next chapter in the story of one of the greatest people in the world, and I am lucky enough to continue the tradition of those who came before me. After that settles in, I spend a lot of time reflecting on my favorite things about Spider-Man and his cast, the stories that spoke to me at different points in my life, and how I can combine all of that to create something that builds on the past while also creating something new. I’m inspired to make daring, unanticipated moves to watch Spider-Man handle Marvel-sized curveballs. Diamonds are created under pressure.

“Peter is the most significant aspect of Spider-Man that I wanted to portray accurately,” Larraz continued. Naturally, I can discuss how I drew a realistic New York, taking hundreds of photos of the city’s details for reference, or how I concentrated on depicting Spidey’s speed and mobility in a manner more akin to animation than comics. However, I believe that Spider-Man comics are successful because we are invested in Peter and his world, so that was my first goal: to create a Peter that you can relate to right away.

April 9, 2025, is the expected release date for Amazing Spider-Man #1.
