Disney+ has announced a Bluey animated feature. Bluey, the dog and star of the Bafta-winning children’s TV show, is making her big-screen debut in her first feature picture.
It will stream in Australia on Disney+, ABC iView, and ABC Kids when it hits theaters in 2027. This project is a collaboration between Disney and BBC Studios, the BBC’s commercial arm. Bluey, a blue heeler dog, lives with her parents and her younger sister, Bingo. She takes the mundane things that happen in her life and she makes adventures out of them.
Joe Brumm, the creator of the show, said: “I have always thought that Bluey deserved a theatrical release. I want this to be a fun experience for the entire family. A blue heeler is an Australian dog breed, and the TV series was co-commissioned by ABC and BBC Studios in 2017 and is produced by the Australian production company Ludo.
It is the top show on CBeebies and Disney+ in the UK and available in 140+ countries. Nielsen Media Research said it is also far and away the most-watched series on Disney+ globally this year.
The series also won other honors including a Peabody Award this year and 2023 and 2024 Television Critics Association Awards.The series has streamed for more than 20 billion minutes domestically on Disney+ over the past year, ranking it among the top 10 series on streaming in terms of minutes viewed.
Its vocal actors on the TV show, Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack, who voice Bluey’s parents, Chilli and Bandit Heeler, will feature in the movie, employing Joff Bush’s music.
