The first day of December will be fantastic for one of the biggest fandoms in the world. Major streamer to host The Hobbit trilogy and Lord of the Rings film trilogy

The Hobbit films: An Unexpected Journey, The Desolation of Smaug, and The Battle of the Five will be out on December 1 as Lord Of The Rings films: Fellowship Of The Ring, Two Towers, and Return are all getting released on December 1 respectively. Peter Jackson’s adaptation of the J. R. R. Tolkien classic novel The Lord of the Rings trilogy hit theaters in 2001.

The movies are set in Middle-earth and centered on hobbit Frodo Baggins and the Fellowship of the Ring, who embark on a quest to destroy the One Ring so that it cannot be used by its master, Dark Lord Sauron. The film series stars an ensemble cast including Elijah Wood, Liv Tyler, Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, Sean Astin, Cate BlanchettChris; Lee, Orlando Bloom, Hugo WeavingAndy; Serkis and Sean Bean.

The Lord of the Rings run concluded in 2003 but Jackson came back for The Hobbit after it was announced he would direct and the film arrived in 2012 with An Unexpected Journey. The prequel trilogy is inspired by Tolkien’s 1937 novel The Hobbit, and the appendices of The Lord of the Rings. Sixty years before the events of the previous trilogy, the film series centers on Bilbo Baggins, who is persuaded by the wizard Gandalf the Grey to join thirteen Dwarves, commanded by Thorin Oakenshield, on a mission to retake the Lonely Mountain from the monster Smaug. Martin Freeman, Richard Armitage, Benedict Cumberbatch, Evangeline Lilly, Lee Pace, and Luke Evans are among the actors who starred in the Hobbit trilogy. Serkis, Bloom, and McKellen all return from the first trilogy.

The Legacy of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings

One of the best and most significant movie series ever made is The Lord of the Rings. The series is one of the highest-grossing franchises ever, with the three films costing $281 million and earning $2.9 billion at the global box office. The movie series won seventeen Academy Awards, including Best Picture for The Return of the King in 2021, from thirty nominations. In addition to rekindling interest in Tolkien’s writings, the series has spawned a plethora of additional media adaptations. This December, The War of the Rohirrim, an anime offshoot of The Lord of the Rings, will make its premiere.

With a $700 million budget, the Hobbit movie trilogy was just as successful at the box office as its predecessor, but critics did not give it the same favorable reception. Despite earning slightly more than $2.9 billion in revenue, the trilogy received largely negative reviews. Though not as many as The Lord of the Rings, the series did win several honors.

On December 1, 2024, the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit films will be released.
