If you’re a fan of the hit manga series “Oshi no Ko,” you’ll be pleased to learn that the universe of this beloved manga series is expanding with the upcoming English release of its spin-off novel “Spica of the First Star.” Published first in Japan in November 2023, the novel enlarges the backstories of principal characters, encouraging fans to re-evaluate what they know about the story.
American publisher Yen Press has announced plans to publish “Spica of the First Star” in July 2025 through its Yen On imprint. This decision aims to cater to the rising interest from English-speaking viewers who wish to delve deeper into the narrative of “Oshi no Ko.”
“Spica of the First Star” is a prequel to the primary manga series. Its plot centers on Ai Hoshino’s thoughts on quitting her idol group, B Komachi, along with the backgrounds of her twin children, Aqua and Ruby, in their former lives. These stories give insight to things that happen around but shape the main story, so enjoyable for hardcore fans.
“Oshi no Ko,” written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari, was serialized from April 2020 to November 2024 in the main “Oshi no Ko” manga, comprising a total of 16 volumes. The series, known for its complex narrative structure and character development, has received acclaim, with several adaptations and spin-offs being produced.
